What do you Train with?

I train only with a martingale collar and 6' (non leather) leash, and praise for letting the dog know when he's done a great job. Plus understanding each unique dog so we can tailor the training plan to your dog. Most of my training is done on umbilical.

What is a Martingale Collar?
A martingale collar is part flat collar and part chain. You can see a picture of a martingale collar here.

Can any dog use a martingale collar?
Yes, any size, age or breed of dog can use a martingale collar. They are safe, and when sized properly, one of the only collars that the dog can't slip out of.

Why work with a Certified Educator Trainer?
There are only 50 Certified Educator Trainers in Canada. As CETs, we are professional dog trainers, and graduates from the intensive training of Brad Pattison's Hustle Up School. We use a unique style of training that will help you understand your dog better and know how to meet his needs. Plus, when you work with a CET, you have access to the knowledge of a full network of trainers.

What is umbilical training
With umbilical training, the leash goes around your waist and is clipped to the martingale collar. This helps you have better control of the dog, reduces the risk of injury to you if your dog pulls, and is an important way for you to bond with your dog. Plus, you can train your dog and carry your coffee at the same time! How much better does it get!

Do you have puppy classes?
My Street Safety Training group class is appropriate for any age, size or breed of dog. I don't separate puppies into their own class because they get so much benefit and learning from the other dogs in class. I may adjust some of the exercise for the puppies as we go along. So yes, puppies are more than welcome into any class! No other "puppy class" is required.

What if my dog doesn't get along with other dogs?
If you have questions about your particular dog, please call me and we can discuss the options for you and your dog. Group class can be great to provide socialization opportunities, but in some cases it may be best to start with a private session and then move on to group classes.

How many private sessions do I need?
I hate to give a vague answer, but it really does depend on the issues your dog has, and the level of commitment that you have to your dog. I typically recommend a minimum of 2 sessions in order to get the best success, and so that I can tweak your training plan as you work with your dog.
